Description

Over a year on the New York Times bestseller list and more than a million copies sold.

The essential universe, from our most celebrated and beloved astrophysicist.

What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There’s no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson.

But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in tasty chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

While you wait for your morning coffee to brew, for the bus, the train, or a plane to arrive, Astrophysics for People in a Hurry will reveal just what you need to be fluent and ready for the next cosmic headlines: from the Big Bang to black holes, from quarks to quantum mechanics, and from the search for planets to the search for life in the universe.

A great read for a non math person. The last chapter alone justifies the price of this book.

I bought this on a whim, and I am so glad I did! The science is incredibly accessible and enjoyable -- the author utilizes great analogies and common language without condescending to non-scientifically astute readers. He creates an astounding picture of the power, the enormity, and the connection between every aspect of the fabric of space-time fro earth through the solar system, the universe, and beyond. Part science, part philosophy, an amazing read I highly recommend for everyone! This will be my Gift Book this year for my family and friends!

Neil embodies and represents the true scientist. His writing takes you on a quick, yet extravagant and beautiful journey through the vast Universe. From the smallest, to the vastly gigantic and dangerous phenomena that have transform and created what we see before us, today. Neil is the man. I was hooked!

Very easy to read with quick short anecdotes where even the least person into astrophysics will be able to understand. This book still sits on my coffee table and I pick it up now and then to re-read some of the chapters.

If I were to read my first book on this subject, this would be the perfect primer. The author gives relatable analogies for the complex workings of the universe(s). If this was my first book it would leave me with wanting to to know more. If that was the author intent which I believe it was, then mission accomplished.
  • The first book I have ever thrown in the garbage.

By Yes!! Most amazing game ever!
His disdain for people who believe in a god is palpable throughout every chapter. Not even an original work, just a rehash of other's theories, peppered with his own self congratulatory prose.
  • Best read!!
