The acclaimed international bestseller ("A dizzily shopaholic comedy." --The New York Times) soon to be a MAJOR MOTION PICTURE starring Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh and Gemma Chan!

When New Yorker Rachel Chu agrees to spend the summer in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nicholas Young, she envisions a humble family home and quality time with the man she hopes to marry. But Nick has failed to give his girlfriend a few key details. One, that his childhood home looks like a palace; two, that he grew up riding in more private planes than cars; and three, that he just happens to be the country’s most eligible bachelor.
On Nick’s arm, Rachel may as well have a target on her back the second she steps off the plane, and soon, her relaxed vacation turns into an obstacle course of old money, new money, nosy relatives, and scheming social climbers.

I work 50 hours a week, have a husband and three kids, AND I'm in school. I purchased this book to read for my chronic insomnia but finished it in four days because I could not fathom sitting it down for too long!! So funny and engaging...I'm seriously buying the next one as soon as I'm done writing this review. What an absolutely delicious break from my daily grind!!!! Phenomenal read.

Less than the shadow one star would make sliding off my Kindle screen as it collapsed into a puddle of tears over the loss of precious moments spent on it. Really not amusing Barely one dimensional characters And a nauseatingly "happy" ending
  • Easy read

Not going to win a literary award but will fly off the bookshelves. Such an easy book to read when you need to escape the entanglements of the world today. A great way to understand bits and pieces of Singapore culture and nuances. It also reminds me that happiness does not come from any goods purchased but in the compassionate humans we bring into our life. That is our most valuable treasure.

  • Great Easy Read

Hard to put down, as the book weaves between story lines you grow to love the characters. I chuckled, laughed and grew attached to the families. I did not want the book to end!!!

This book was long and very soap opera like with subtle humor. The descriptions of the wealth of the characters was over done. The ending was bad. Very abrupt resolution leaving too many unresolved story lines. It was described as a comedy but it wasn't that funny. Maybe because I am not Asian I just do t get it. I wasted my time reading this. I'm very disappointed with the end.
